MALLETS PARKCAMBRIDGE
MIXED-USE MASTERPLAN

We were invited to work on this project for the development of a greenfield site on the outskirts of Cambridge by the Enabling Projects Team at the Prince's Foundation.  In contrast to many recent developments around the city, our masterplan here is conceived as a mixed-use traditional urban extension.  270 houses and apartments would be provided, of which 40% would be affordable.

The layout focuses on a new elongated village green to the southeast and a more urban square to the northwest.  Informal and lower density houses are arranged around the green, whereas more formal and higher density houses are provided near the square. The existing village high street would be extended to pass adjacent to the site and provide a cinema, shops and cafe.  The development would also contain children's play areas and a community orchard. Buildings are arranged in urban blocks, typically with a parking court at the centre. New pedestrian and cycle routes, together with an electric car club, would assist in reducing car usage.
