HOUSING IN SHERBORNE

DORSET

This proposal provides fourteen new houses on the outskirts of Sherborne, Dorset, on a site adjacent to Sherborne Girls School.  The scheme is conceived as a set of unique detached and semi-detached picturesque villas.

 

To the north and east, the buildings face the street.  To the south, the villas form a concave crescent focusing on the green area beyond the site, which includes a number of specimen trees.  The southern site boundary (which was flexible in this location) is designed as a convex crescent, and the interstitial space forms a landscaped public garden.  

 

The houses are constructed in Sherborne stone and render, with natural slate roofs.   High ceilings and large window openings allow light to penetrate deep into the rooms.  Bay windows, oriels and terraces are designed to make the best use of the southerly aspect.
