HOUSE IN MARSTON MAGNA
EXTENSION - SOMERSET

The house is situated in the Marston Magna Conservation Area, near Yeovil, Somerset.  It is a former lodge constructed in the late Victorian period and surrounded by extensive gardens that formed part of the Manor House estate.

The client required a music room, study and an additional bedroom with an ensuite bathroom. Since the existing staircase was surrounded by rooms on all sides with no direct access to the upper floor of the extension, the new building also contains its own private stair.

The extension takes advantage of its southerly aspect; the main rooms have windows on three sides, making the best use of natural light and providing views of the gardens and countryside beyond.

The traditional materials used all match those of the existing house: red brick for the walls, timber for the windows and dormers, and plain clay roof tiles.
