CODFORD ST MARY HOUSE
WILTSHIRE

This new classical house is situated on an infill site within the historic High Street of Codford St Mary, Wiltshire.  Surrounded by listed buildings, the design had to carefully blend the need to respect the historic fabric whilst at the same time providing modern living accommodation in response to the client's brief.

The main house is inspired by local provincial Georgian buildings and is rendered with sash windows.  The garage takes a more vernacular form - that of a coach house - and includes casement dormer windows. Both volumes are roofed in slate.

The plan adopts a Georgian four-square model, which has been adapted for contemporary living; one side for informal use during the day, the other for evenings and more formal occasions.  Six bedrooms are located on two floors above, and a self contained granny flat is located above the garage.  Sustainability measures include a whole house ventilation system and a PV array on the rear facing roof.
