SHERBORNE HOUSE
MASTERPLAN
SHERBORNE, DORSET

This proposed traditional housing development is located within the historic gardens of Sherborne House, Sherborne, Dorset.  The existing walled gardens are listed and contain trees that are subject to Preservation Orders, such that buildings could not be located on the perimeter of the block. Instead, our scheme comprises buildings that are arranged to form internal courtyards reminiscent of those sometimes found in country house estates for workers' housing.

There are 42 units in total, of which 25 are three and four bedroom houses and 17 are one and two bedroom apartments.  35% of the houses are classified as affordable.

Views of the main house are maximised and pedestrian routes are encouraged by a network of pathways that pass through the various spaces.  The buildings adopt a language inspired by Sherborne's provincial Georgian architecture and use a palette of local materials including render, stone, clay tiles and slate.
